I have to admit that I was up most of the night watching returns on BBC and the Internet. It did not make for good sleep. So today was a slow day. We went over to the large square and Mosque next to the Mevlani Museum on a bright sunny day to people watch and listen to the call to prayer echo from 4 different Mosques. The sun was out but the wind was cold.
Still these men and many more sat in the cold wind and performed their ablutions before prayer.

I especially enjoyed watching the children
After sitting there for quite a while we walked back to our hotel and sat in the Garden. Suddenly I discovered I didn't have my tablet which I had used over by the mosque. Obviously I had left it on the bench. I figured it was long gone but asked Norbert to run over and check. A bit later he came back waving it. When he went back to the square a young Islamic woman was sitting on the bench where I had left it. She told Norbert she saw it there and hoped the owner would soon discover it was missing and come back for it. What a gift. I'm sorry I didn't meet her.
Bed early tonight. Tomorrow we go to Bodrum by the Aegean Sea. To get there we take an early plane back to Istanbul and then have about a 6 hour layover the one hour flight to Bodrum. which is the one city on tis trip we hadn't visited before..
Wow, Janis, in most places I can think of your tablet would have been long gone... Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful to see such expressions of people's goodness. WE see so much of the "radicals" but the majority are such good people.
