Conversation with a Syrian

Before we left Istanbul we met a Syrian man who had been part of demonstrations in Syria and had been shot in the head.  He was only in the hospital a short time as the opposition would come in and take the injured , knowing they had been part of demonstrations.  He had escaped to Turkey and hoped to get to Germany.  I asked him how Syrians felt about the US intervention.   He said they fear it will be like Iraq where we rid them of Saddam and then left them without protection.

He said everyone underestimated the strength of the enemy.

If he is right it seems we have the choice of a repeat of Vietnam or letting things take a course they will eventually anyway.

Sad.   May compassion prevail.
